Jonathan graduated from University College London in 1984 with a BSc (Hons) in Economics.  His first job was as a graduate sales trainee, selling a range of seven-year rental plan telephone systems.    After 9 months he was asked to join a small London based telecoms supplier as their first salesman. The company quickly grew and Jonathan, now Sales Manager, decided to recruit graduate trainees to assist in the expansion.  By 1992 the company employed 120 staff, 50% of whom were sales people. Jonathan became a 26% shareholder in the business, which was now turning over £5 million.    In 1993 the company was sold and over the next 2 years he took on a number of roles at director level within the telecoms sector before meeting Andrew Sawer in 1995 and setting up Pareto Law.
